Though being nourished and being fed are both very important, they are very different and mean different things for the body. The definition of ‘nourished’ is to “provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition”. This means that someone who is nourished isn’t only eating, but is eating healthy foods that support both the body and mind. The definition of ‘fed’ is “to give food”. This means giving any food, regardless of the health benefits (or lack thereof).
It is important to know the difference between these two in order to properly take care of yourself and those around you. While it is (obviously) important to be fed, it is even more important. You want to make sure that you are not only eating anything, but are eating foods that fill you and your body with nutrients that support you. This is an issue for many people around the world, as many don’t understand the difference, and are therefore filling their body with foods that do not support their growth and health.
Keep these definitions next time you are grocery shopping to make sure that you are buying ingredients to nourish you, not only feed you!
