The Health Benefits of Apples

Apples are a fan-favourite fruit. Ranging from sweet to sour, red to green, there is a version out there for everyone. Turns out, they also have some great health benefits! Apples are rich in antioxidants, which are incredibly important for the body (learn why in our article about antioxidants). Apples also contain nutrients that help maintain heart health, such as fiber and potassium. In some cases, they can prevent type-2 diabetes and cancer. Apples have been found to lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels, which lowers your overall risk for cardiovascular disease. Because of the amounts of fiber, apples can also help with digestive health and improve the efficiency of the digestive system. Additionally, the minerals and vitamins can help protect your immune system (where the saying “one apple a day keeps the doctor away” comes from). Overall, apples are a great source of nutrition and should be incorporated into your diet if possible!
